Clothesline vs Dryer

Clothesline vs Dryer is a controvesy that will never end I believe. There are people who feel that line dried clothes are just to stiff. Then there are those of us who are diehard line driers. My personal saying is they can have my clothesline when they pry it from my cold dead fingers. I very rarely ever use my dryer, in fact I know I have not used it since mid February of this yr. We moved out of our old manufactured home since we would have no heat in there anymore & into my parents motorhome. We finally moved into our new manufactured home in mid April & my hubby has not hooked up the dryer yet. I love the way my laundry smells & feels coming off the line. Not to mention that my clothes last longer since the dryer does break down the fabrics faster(where do you think all the lint comes from?). Of course there are a few things I do have to iron after hanging them on the line, but my iron uses a lot less electricity then a dryer does. And I iron after the children are in bed at night so no interuptions or worries about little ones getting hurt. Then all the creases are in the correct places & nice & sharply defined too. But I firmly believe it is a personal choice everyone has to make for themself. there really is n right or wrong decision in this matter. But for those of you who choose to use a dryer might I offer some advice to save you some time & elec usage? Never pack your dryer full to the top, dry them in smaller loads & each one will dry faster. Dry like materials together also, that way one item won't get dry before the others. Never dry on high heat as that ruins(shrinks) clothes faster & uses more elec, always use the med setting for towels & lower settings for more delicate clothes. Another advantage to line drying the sun bleaches my whites for me & I use no bleach in my laundry at all.

So happy drying whichever way you choose to dry your clothes.

How do you get the stiffness out of the clothes, or especially towels that are line dried? I have been considering line drying everything BUT towels, because when I have done it in the past they have come out scratchy and hard. Surely you don't iron bath towels? Also, where do you have your clothes line so that it is not in the way? We live in a small neighborhood yard that's pretty packed.
Finally (this is something that an older generation probably knew, but nobody in today's world does), How do you prevent fading? E.g., how long can you leave the clothes out without losing color? Do you dry clothes in the shade?
